Okanogan County Transportation & Nutrition (OCTN) is dedicated to improving quality of life for seniors, handicapped and the general public of Okanogan, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, and Lincoln Counties and to encourage independent living through nutrition and transportation services.
OCTN runs both intercity and door-to-door bus service throughout Okanogan county, including Brewster/Pateros/Bridgeport area, Omak/Okanogan area, Oroville, Tonasket, Twisp/Winthrop area, Nespelum, Coulee Dam, with occasional long-distance trips to Wenatchee.
OCTN also provides regular meals via Home Delivery and at Senior Centers throughout Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties. Home Delivered meals are offered for a suggested donation for persons age 60 and over who are home-bound in all areas where meals are served at the local senior center. When funding allows, spouses, unpaid caregivers, or disabled persons living in the household may also receive meals.

Sarah Simonson is the Veterans Service Officer for Douglas County. She assists with applying for Veterans Benefits, provides resources and referrals in the community for the Veteran’s needs, and controls the county’s Veterans Relief Funds.
Sarah Simonson served in the Air Force 1999 – 2004 as a Security Forces journeyman at the Air Force Academy with a deployment to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Southern Watch.
Sarah and family moved to Wenatchee to be closer to some good friends in 2009. Since then, the Wenatchee Valley has become home. She has spent 13 years being a stay-at-home mom. In 2015, she joined VFW Post 3617 (Wenatchee Valley) and has been active in the local veteran community since. She has served as the Quartermaster for VFW Post 3617, the Secretary on the Douglas County Veterans Advisory Board, and President of the board for Wenatchee Valley Veterans Hall. Read more…

WorkSource is a statewide partnership of state, local, and nonprofit agencies that provides an array of employment and training services to job seekers and employers in Washington.
Federal law entitles veterans and eligible spouses priority access to WorkSource services. This includes priority referrals to jobs that are listed with WorkSource, as well as other employment and training programs.
If you were discharged after 11 Sept 2001, you can sign up for intensive one-on-one employment support through the federal Gold Card program to help with your job hunt.
In addition to individualized job hunt support, local WorkSource offices host a variety of free classes and workshops on a regular basis, including Resume Writing, Job Search Strategies, Office Computer Basics, and Interview Practice Sessions.
In addition to providing employment assistance, WorkSource markets the advantages of hiring veterans to local businesses and connects veterans to services that help with health care, food, clothing, or housing.

We provide counseling and consultation, often at no cost, to qualified veterans and their family members. Private, professional, and knowledgeable, we can help with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other issues that veterans may face such as depression, anxiety, anger management, and family problems. We help with readjustment to civilian life after leaving the military. We also offer individual, marriage, family, and group counseling, along with assessments for PTSD and educational classes for PTSD and related issues. Read more…

The Veteran Services office is located in Wenatchi Hall room 2136 (lower level).
They assist military-connected students — prior service military, active duty personnel, national guardsmen, reservists, and family members — with accessing VA education benefits and other college funding. They are available to guide students through the application process, as well as provide referrals to other on campus and community resources.
This office serves both Omak and Wenatchee Campus students. Please contact them for more information regarding VA education benefits, tuition discounts, military tuition assistance and course credit for military experience. Read more…
“The Bunker is a place where the coffee is always hot and goodies are on the table. A place of no judgement and fun conversation. The Bunker is a home away from home. A place where Veterans can come for camaraderie with those you don’t have to explain anything to.”
Officially registered as NCW Veterans Serving Veterans, The Bunker (as it is more commonly referred to) is a non-profit in Wenatchee formed in 2008 for the sole purpose of helping veterans in need, whether the need be VA paperwork support, emergency assistance, or referrals to other veteran resources in the area. The Bunker is an all-volunteer run organization, with monthly board meetings open to the public on the second Wednesday of each month at 1000 at their location in Wenatchee.
Main area of support is Veteran camaraderie through coffee, snacks, games, and conversation. The Bunker also provides assistance with the VA system (healthcare, benefits, etc) such as filing claims and appeals. Volunteers with the Bunker are also known for proactive rapid response when veterans in need reach out. Thanks to the generosity of community donations, there is also a food, clothing, and toiletries pantry available for those in need.
